4 Day Bwindi Double Gorilla Trekking Safari
A 4-day Bwindi double gorilla trekking safari is designed for travellers who want more than one mountain gorilla encounter in Uganda. This itinerary includes two separate gorilla treks in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, giving you the chance to visit different gorilla families and experience two different forest sectors. The safari starts from Kampala or Entebbe and travels to the Buhoma sector for the first gorilla trek before continuing to Rushaga for the second trek. This gives you a broader view of Bwindi’s forest terrain, from the older northern trails of Buhoma to the steeper southern ridges of Rushaga. This package is ideal for photographers, wildlife lovers and travellers who want more time with mountain gorillas without choosing a longer Uganda safari circuit.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1, Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Buhoma Sector
Your driver guide will pick you up early from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe for the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive to Buhoma usually takes about 8 to 10 hours, depending on traffic, road conditions and stops. You travel west through central and southwestern Uganda, stopping at the Equator of Uganda for photos and a short break. Continue to Mbarara for lunch, then drive through rolling hills, banana farms, small towns and highland scenery as you approach Bwindi. The final section brings you closer to the forest edge and the Buhoma sector. Arrive in the late afternoon or evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner and prepare for the first gorilla trekking day. Accommodation: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp or Buhoma Lodge
Day 2, First Gorilla Trek in Buhoma Sector
After an early breakfast, your driver guide will transfer you to the Buhoma park headquarters for a briefing. Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers will explain the trekking rules, safety guidance, group allocation and how to behave around the gorillas. You will then enter the forest with ranger guides and trackers to search for your assigned gorilla family. The trek can take about 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas, terrain and forest conditions. Buhoma is known for mature forest and established trekking routes, although the walk can still be physically demanding. Once the gorillas are found, you spend one hour observing them. You may see a silverback, mothers with infants, young gorillas playing, feeding behaviour and family interaction. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch, then transfer to the Rushaga sector in southern Bwindi. Arrive in the evening, check in and rest ahead of the second trek. Accomodation: Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge or Four Gorillas Lodge.

Day 3, Second Gorilla Trek in Rushaga Sector
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Rushaga park headquarters for your second gorilla trekking briefing. On this day, you track a different assigned gorilla family in the southern part of Bwindi. Rushaga is known for steeper hills, thicker vegetation and wider views across the highlands, so the trek may feel more demanding than Buhoma. You will walk with ranger guides and trackers through forest trails, muddy slopes and dense vegetation. In some sections, trackers may clear the trail where the vegetation is thick. Once the gorillas are located, you spend another one hour observing the family. This second trek allows you to compare gorilla behaviour, family size, terrain and forest conditions between two sectors. After the trek, return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4, Return to Kampala or Entebbe
After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. The drive takes you through the Kigezi highlands, terraced hills, farms and small towns of southwestern Uganda. Lunch is arranged at a suitable stop along the route. You may stop again at the Uganda Equator, depending on timing and interest. Arrival in Kampala or Entebbe is usually in the late afternoon or evening, depending on traffic and road conditions. For travellers flying out on the same day, a late evening or night flight is recommended. Your driver guide will drop you at your hotel, residence or Entebbe International Airport.
