Uganda wildlife safaris work best when the route is built around what each park does well. Murchison Falls is strong for elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos and the Nile boat cruise; Queen Elizabeth for game drives, the Kazinga Channel and tree-climbing lions; Kidepo for remote wilderness; and Lake Mburo for a lighter safari close to Kampala.

What You Can See & Do

The right park for the right experience

A good Uganda safari uses each park for what it does best — then combines savannah and forest for the full picture.

Uganda's wildlife safari becomes even stronger when the savannah parks are combined with forest parks — Bwindi and Mgahinga for gorillas, Kibale for chimpanzees, and Budongo, Kyambura and Kalinzu along the right route.

Safari Cost

How much does a Uganda wildlife safari cost?

The cost depends on the number of days, the parks visited, the activities included, the lodge level, the vehicle used and how many people share the trip. A short wildlife safari without gorilla trekking costs much less than a route that adds Bwindi, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls.

Because every trip is private and tailor-made, we prepare an exact quotation once we understand your plans. The best value isn't always the cheapest safari — a good budget allows for reliable transport, a knowledgeable guide, well-placed lodges and enough time in each park.

Best Time to Visit

When to go on a Uganda wildlife safari

Uganda is a year-round destination, but the experience changes with the seasons.

Jun – Sep & Dec – Feb
Dry season

The most reliable time for safaris. Forest trails in Bwindi, Mgahinga and Kibale are firmer for trekking, and game drives in Queen Elizabeth, Murchison, Kidepo and Lake Mburo are stronger as shorter grass brings animals into clearer view. Peak months — book permits and lodges early.

Mar – May & Oct – Nov
Green season

Greener landscapes, fewer visitors and excellent birding as migratory birds arrive. Trekking and game drives are still very possible with the right preparation — some forest trails are muddier — and rates are often lower with better lodge availability.

Getting Around

How to travel on a Uganda safari

Travelling by road
Most safaris use a private 4×4 with a driver-guide — it gives the best access to parks, lodges and the landscapes in between. Main routes connect Entebbe or Kampala with Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi, Mgahinga and Lake Mburo. Some roads are tarmac; the final stretches into parks can be murram, hilly or forest tracks.
Travelling by air
Domestic flights help when the route is long, the budget allows or you want to cut driving time — ideal for luxury safaris, short gorilla trips and Kidepo. Flights connect Entebbe or Kajjansi with airstrips near the main parks.
Entering Uganda by road
You can also enter overland, especially from Rwanda when combining Kigali with gorilla trekking in southern Bwindi (Rushaga and Nkuringo) or Mgahinga. Road entry from Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo or South Sudan is possible on the right itinerary.
Public transport & self-drive
Public transport works for local movement but is not practical for reaching lodges, park gates and remote areas on a timed safari. Self-driving is possible for experienced travellers, though most visitors get better value and a smoother trip with a guided private vehicle.
Practical guide advice
Use road transfers for routes that connect naturally — Entebbe, Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi and Lake Bunyonyi. Use domestic flights when the distance is too long, the trip is short, or comfort matters more than cost. We plan the most practical mix for your route.
Where to Stay

Lodges chosen for the route

On a Uganda safari, lodge location matters as much as lodge quality — the right base saves hours and makes early starts easier.

Bwindi has separate sectors — Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. Your lodge must match your permit's sector, so we place you on the right side of the forest.

Most safaris start or end near Entebbe airport — a night here is useful for late arrivals, early starts or resting before the drive to the parks.
