Detailed Itinerary

Day 1, Mount Kilimanjaro Day Hike, Marangu Gate, Mandara Hut, and Maundi Crater

After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, meet your guide and transfer to Kilimanjaro National Park (Marangu Gate, 1,840 m) for registration and briefing. Begin your hike through the montane rainforest, one of the most scenic sections of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail is well-defined and gradually ascends, passing through dense vegetation with towering trees, moss-covered trunks, and a variety of plant species. Along the way, you may spot black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and several forest bird species. The hike to Mandara Hut (2,670 m) takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. Upon arrival, take a break, enjoy your packed lunch, and rest while taking in the cool mountain environment. After lunch, continue with a short

excursion to Maundi Crater, which offers panoramic views of Northern Tanzania and, on clear days, parts of Kenya. This is one of the best viewpoints on a day hike. In the afternoon, begin your descent back through the rainforest, which typically takes 2 to 3 hours. The descent allows for a different perspective of the forest and more opportunities for wildlife sightings. Upon reaching the park gate, meet your driver and transfer back to Arusha for dinner and overnight stay at Grand Melia Hotel/Tulia Boutique Hotel

Day 2, Arusha to Tarangire National Park, Elephant Herds and Baobab Game Drive

After breakfast, meet your safari guide and depart for Tarangire National Park, located about 2 to 3 hours from Arusha. Arrive at the park in time for lunch, either at your lodge or a designated picnic site within the park. After lunch, begin your afternoon game drive, which is one of the best times to see wildlife as temperatures begin to cool. Tarangire is particularly known for its large elephant herds, often seen moving in groups near the Tarangire River, which serves as the main water source during the dry season. This makes the park especially rewarding for wildlife viewing between June and October. During your game drive, explore a mix of open savannah, riverine vegetation, and woodland areas.

You may encounter giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, impalas, and predators such as lions and leopards. The park is also rich in birdlife, with species such as hornbills, eagles, and weaver birds commonly seen. One of the defining features of Tarangire is its ancient baobab trees, some of which are hundreds of years old, creating a unique landscape ideal for photography. Continue with game viewing until late afternoon before exiting the park or heading to your lodge inside/near the park for dinner and overnight stay at Heritage Manyara Safari Lodge for mid-range, Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for Lower-Luxury, Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge for Luxury.

Day 3, Lake Manyara National Park Game Drive and Guided Walking Safari

After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park with a packed lunch for a full day of activities. Begin with a morning game drive through the park’s diverse ecosystems, which include groundwater forests, open grasslands, and the alkaline lake shoreline. This variation in habitat supports a wide range of wildlife. Lake Manyara is well known for its tree-climbing lions, often seen resting on branches of acacia trees. You may also encounter elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, and smaller antelope species such as dik-dik.

The lake itself attracts large numbers of birds, including flamingos, pelicans, storks, and other water birds, making it one of Tanzania’s best birdwatching locations. After a picnic lunch in the park, continue with a guided walking safari in the afternoon, accompanied by a ranger. This activity provides a closer look at the environment, including animal tracks, plant species, and smaller wildlife that are often missed during game drives. The walking safari also offers a different perspective of the park, allowing you to experience the landscape at ground level. In the late afternoon, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4, Lake Manyara to Central Serengeti, Savannah Game Drive

After an early breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park, passing through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive takes you through highland landscapes with views of the crater and surrounding plains. There are opportunities to stop briefly for photography as you descend into the Serengeti ecosystem. Arrive in the Serengeti in time for lunch at your lodge or a picnic site, followed by an afternoon game drive across the vast plains. This first game drive introduces you to the Serengeti’s rich wildlife. Expect to see zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, elephants, and predators such as lions and hyenas. The open plains make wildlife spotting easier, especially in the late afternoon. Continue exploring until sunset, then proceed to your lodge in the Central Serengeti for dinner and an overnight stay at Central Serengeti Tanzania Bush Camp for Mid-range, Seronera Wildlife Lodge for Lower-Luxury, Melia Serengeti Lodge for Luxury.

Spend two full days exploring the Northern Serengeti, one of the most rewarding regions for wildlife viewing, especially during the migration season. Each day begins with an early morning game drive, when temperatures are cooler and predators are most active. This is the best time to track lions, leopards, and cheetahs as they hunt across the plains. During the day, follow the movement of wildebeest and zebras, which migrate in large numbers in search of fresh grazing. Depending on the time of year, you may witness Mara River crossings, where herds attempt to cross crocodile-filled waters. Return to your lodge for lunch and rest during the midday heat. In the afternoon, head out again for another game drive, focusing on riverine areas and open plains where elephants, giraffes, antelopes, and hyenas are commonly seen. These extended game drives allow for deeper exploration of the region and increase your chances of witnessing unique wildlife behavior. Return to your lodge each evening for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7, Mara River Game Drive and Transfer to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in the Mara River area, focusing on wildlife activity along the riverbanks. This region is particularly active during migration season, where herds gather before attempting crossings. You may also see predators such as lions and crocodiles taking advantage of these movements. Later, begin your transfer to the Central Serengeti (Seronera region), with a game drive en route. The landscape gradually changes from riverine areas to open plains and rocky outcrops known as kopjes, which are often used by lions as resting and lookout points. Stop for a picnic lunch in the bush before continuing with wildlife viewing along the way. Arrive in Central Serengeti in the late afternoon and proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8, Serengeti to Ngorongoro, Olduvai Gorge Visit and Crater Rim Walk

After breakfast, depart Serengeti with a morning game drive as you exit the park. Drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping at Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Here, you can visit the small museum and learn about early human evolution discoveries made in the area. Continue your journey through the highlands, passing Maasai grazing areas where you may see local communities and livestock. Arrive at your lodge near the crater rim in the afternoon. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a short walk along the crater rim or relax while taking in panoramic views of the crater below. Dinner and overnight stay at Hhando Coffee Lodge for Mid-range, Ngorongoro Oldeani Mountain Lodge for Lower-Luxury, Ngorongoro Lodge by Melia for Luxury.

Day 9, Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive and Maasai Bomas Visit

After an early breakfast, descend approximately 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive. The crater is one of the best wildlife viewing areas in Africa due to its enclosed ecosystem and high concentration of animals. Explore different habitats, including open grasslands, swamps, and Lake Magadi, where flamingos are often seen. You may encounter lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinos, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, and hippos. Stop for a picnic lunch near the hippo pool before continuing with wildlife viewing in other parts of the crater. In the afternoon, ascend from the crater and proceed to a Maasai Boma visit, where you will learn about traditional Maasai culture, lifestyle, and cattle-keeping practices. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 10, Transfer to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and transfer back to Arusha. Depending on your travel plans, you will be dropped off at Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight. This marks the end of your 10-day Tanzania safari.
