3 Day Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Safari
A 3-day Kyambura Gorge chimpanzee safari is a short Uganda primate and wildlife tour inside Queen Elizabeth National Park. The safari focuses on Kyambura Gorge, a forested valley known for chimpanzee tracking, primates, birds and dramatic scenery. The trip starts from Kampala or Entebbe and includes a transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, an evening game drive, a guided nature and primate walk in Kyambura Gorge, a local coffee tour and the option of a final morning game drive before returning. Kyambura Gorge is often called the Valley of Apes because of its primate life. The gorge creates a strong contrast with the surrounding savannah, with riverine forest, steep slopes, thick vegetation and wildlife movement between the gorge and the wider Queen Elizabeth landscape. This safari works well for travellers who want a short Uganda primate experience, a Queen Elizabeth wildlife add-on, or a softer alternative to a longer Kibale chimpanzee trekking safari.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1, Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Evening Game Drive
Your driver guide will pick you up from Kampala or Entebbe in the morning and begin the journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes about 6 to 7 hours, depending on traffic, road conditions and stops. You travel via Masaka Road, with a stop at the Uganda Equator for photographs and a short visit to the craft shops. Lunch is arranged en route. On arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park, continue for an evening game drive, depending on arrival time. This gives you the first chance to see wildlife such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs and, with luck, leopards. After the game drive, proceed to your lodge for check-in, dinner and overnight stay. Accommodation options: Luxury option: Kyambura Gorge Lodge, Mid-range options: Parkview Safari Lodge or Elephant Hub Lodge, Budget option: Pumba Safari Lodge

Day 2, Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Tracking and Coffee Tour
After an early breakfast, transfer to the starting point for your Kyambura Gorge activity. You will attend a briefing with the park guides before entering the gorge. Kyambura Gorge is a steep forested valley inside Queen Elizabeth National Park. The walk takes you through riverine forest, thick vegetation and shaded trails along the Kyambura River. This landscape is very different from the open savannah above the gorge, which makes the experience more varied. During the walk, your guide will search for chimpanzees and other primates such as black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons and vervet monkeys. Chimpanzee sightings are possible but not guaranteed because the community moves through the gorge and forested sections. The gorge is also good for birding. Species that may be seen include African finfoot, blue-headed bee-eater, black bee-eater, African broadbill, papyrus gonolek, Verreaux’s eagle owl and other forest or wetland birds depending on the season. After the walk, return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, visit a coffee plantation near Kyambura. This local experience introduces coffee growing, harvesting, drying and preparation. You may also taste locally prepared coffee and learn how coffee supports households around the Queen Elizabeth region. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3, Morning Game Drive and Return to Kampala or Entebbe
After breakfast, you may take an optional morning game drive before starting the return journey. The morning drive gives you another chance to see wildlife missed the previous evening, including elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs and possible predators. After the activity, begin the drive back to Kampala or Entebbe. The journey takes about 6 to 7 hours, with lunch arranged en route. The route offers views of western Uganda’s landscapes, farms, towns and roadside markets. On arrival, your driver guide will drop you at your hotel, residence or Entebbe International Airport. For same-day international flights, choose an evening departure to allow enough time for the road transfer. This marks the end of your 3-day Kyambura Gorge safari.
