This 5-day Uganda romantic safari is designed for couples who want privacy, comfort, and beautiful lake scenery without early starts or long days of rushing. You explore two of Uganda’s most relaxing destinations, Lake Mburo and Lake Bunyonyi, with a private guide, a comfortable 4×4, and handpicked lodges that suit honeymoon and anniversary travel.

In Lake Mburo, enjoy a quiet sunset boat cruise and an optional horseback safari that lets you move gently among zebras and antelope. In the southwest highlands, Lake Bunyonyi offers calm waters, cool evenings, and time to slow down, with a private canoe trek to visit small islands and viewpoints. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Entebbe to Lake Mburo, Equator, Igongo, sunset cruise
Route: Kampala/Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park Drive Time: 4 hours (235 km) Stay: Mihingo Lodge (Luxury) or Rwakobo Rock (Mid-range).
Your private guide picks you up at 7:00 AM from your hotel or Entebbe Airport. You will travel in a 4×4 Land Cruiser. It has a pop-up roof, a fridge for cold drinks, and plenty of legroom. Stop 1: The Uganda Equator(Kayabwe). We stop here for photos. Stand with one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and one in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a classic photo, but we keep it quick. Grab a coffee if you need one. Stop 2: Lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre. We reach Mbarara town around 12:30 PM. We stop at Igongo for a hot lunch. They serve local dishes like eshabwe (ghee sauce) and millet bread, as well as grilled chicken and beef.
Arrival at Lake Mburo. We enter the park in the afternoon. This is the only park in Uganda with high numbers of impalas and zebras. You will see them grazing right next to the road. Evening Activity: Private SunsetBoat Cruise. At 4:00 PM, we board a small boat on Lake Mburo. This is not a big ferry. It is quiet. You will see hippos snorting in the water and crocodiles basking on the banks. The African Fish Eagle often calls from the trees. We bring a cooler with wine or beers for you to enjoy as the sun goes down. Dinner: 3-course dinner at the lodge. The Vibe: Candles, sounds of crickets, and total peace

Day 2: Horseback safari, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Route: Lake Mburo to Lake Bunyonyi Drive Time: 4 to 5 hours Stay: BirdNest Resort (Luxury/Mid-range) or Arcadia Cottages
Morning Activity: Horseback Safari (or Walking Safari) Sleep in a little. Breakfast is at 8:00 AM. After coffee, we do something special. Lake Mburo is safe. There are no elephants or lions here to threaten you. This means you can get out of the car. We arranged a Horseback Safari with Mihingo Lodge. You ride gently among the zebras. The animals are not afraid of horses, so you can get very close. If
you do not ride horses, we take a guided nature walk with a ranger. Walking on the same land as giraffes feels wild and real.
The Transfer. We leave the park at 11:00 AM. We drive deeper into the southwest. The land changes. The flat savannah turns into green, rolling hills. This area is called Kigezi. The locals farm on steep terraces. It looks like a patchwork quilt of green. We arrive at Lake Bunyonyi in the late afternoon. Bunyonyi means “Place of many little birds.” It is a crater lake with 29 islands. It is 900 meters deep in some spots.
Day 3 Lake Bunyonyi canoe trek and island stops
Location: Lake Bunyonyi (Full Day) Stay: BirdNest Resort or Arcadia Cottages
Morning: Breakfast with a View. Eat breakfast on the terrace. The mist usually rises off the lake in the morning. It is cool, so wear a light sweater. Mid-Morning: Private Canoe Trek We hire a traditional dugout canoe. It is paddled by a local guide, but you can paddle too if you want. The motorboats are too loud. The canoe is silent.

We visit Akampene (Punishment Island). It is a tiny patch of grass with one dead tree. Long ago, pregnant, unmarried girls were left here. It is a sad history, but important to know. Your guide will tell you the story simply and respectfully. We also visit Kyahugye Island. Here, you can see zebras and waterbucks that were brought to the island. It is like a mini-zoo but without cages. Lunch: A picnic on a private island or back at the lodge
Afternoon: Swimming and Reading. The rest of the day is yours. Lake Bunyonyi is one of the few lakes in East Africa that is Bilharzia-free. You can swim without worry. The water is cool and fresh. If you prefer, sit by the dock with a book. Order a drink. Watch the Kingfishers dive for food. Dinner: Try the local crayfish. It is the specialty here. They cook it with garlic butter or in a curry. It is delicious
Day 4: Viewpoints and village walk, sunset, and lodge time
Location: Lake Bunyonyi and Kabale Highlands Stay: BirdNest Resort or Arcadia Cottage
Morning: The View from the Top After breakfast, we drive up the hills to Arcadia Cottages for
a coffee stop. The view from here is famous. You can see the shape of the lake clearly. You see all the islands winding like a snake through the hills. It is the best photo spot on the trip
Mid-Day: Community Village Walk. We take a slow walk through the local villages. You meet the Bakiga people. They are strong and friendly. You see how they brew local sorghum beer. It is not a staged show. You are just walking through their daily life. We can also visit a local blacksmith who makes knives and tools the old way.
Afternoon: Sunset Cocktails. We return to the lodge early. Enjoy a massage at the lodge if you like (let us know, and we book it in advance). At 5:30 PM, we sit by the fire pit. The staff lights a fire as the air gets chilly. Enjoy your final evening looking at the stars. The sky is very dark here, so the stars are bright
Day 5 Scenic drive back to Entebbe with a craft stop
Route: Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala/Entebbe Drive Time: 7 to 8 hours
We start early, around 7:00 AM. It is a long drive back, but we break it up. Lunch Stop: We stop at a different restaurant in Mbarara or Masaka to keep it interesting. Mpambire Drum Makers: Near Kampala, we stop at Mpambire. You see men making big ceremonial drums. You can buy a small souvenir if you want, but no pressure. Drop off: We drop you at your hotel in Kampala or directly at Entebbe International Airport. Note: Please book your flight for after 8:00 PM to be safe
