Detailed Itinerary

Day 1, Kilembe Trail Hike to Sine Camp

Your guide will pick you up from Kasese or Kilembe in the morning and transfer you to the trail base near Kyanjuki. At the base, you meet your mountain guides and complete the pre-hike briefing. Your gear is checked, and gumboots or other hiking gear can be rented if needed. This is important because the Kilembe Trail can be muddy even during drier months. The hike begins with a gentle walk through local Bakonzo homesteads and cultivated hillsides, then reaches the park boundary. From here, the trail enters the Afro-montane forest, where the air cools and the vegetation thickens. The climb becomes steeper as you move higher through forest trails, muddy sections and wooden ladders. Along the way, you may see L’Hoest’s monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, forest birds, giant ferns and moss-covered trees. By mid-afternoon, you reach Sine Camp at 2,596 metres. The huts are simple and built for hikers, with basic sleeping facilities and mountain shelter. After resting, take a short walk to Enock Falls, a scenic waterfall close to the camp. Dinner is served in the evening, and temperatures can drop quickly at night, so warm layers are important.

Kilembe Trail Hike

Day 2, Bamboo Zone Edge and Descent to Kilembe

Wake up early at Sine Camp. If the weather is clear, you may see the higher forest ridges above the camp. For strong hikers, there is an optional short walk towards the edge of the bamboo zone before breakfast. This gives you a quick view of how the vegetation changes as elevation increases. After breakfast, begin the descent along the same trail. The walk down is faster than the ascent but can be tough on the knees, especially on muddy sections. A walking stick or trekking poles are helpful. The morning light is good for photography, and you may spot chameleons, monkeys or forest birds along the trail. Arrive back at the trail base around early afternoon. After returning any rented gear, your driver transfers you to Kasese, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale or your next destination.
