6 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trek and Akagera Wildlife Safari

Rwanda is one of the few safari destinations where you can combine Big Five game drives and world-class primate trekking in under a week. This 6-day itinerary links Akagera National Park in the east with Volcanoes National Park in the north, giving you both savannah wildlife and iconic mountain encounters without rushing. Start in Kigali for a short city orientation, then head to Akagera for game drives and a Lake Ihema boat safari, a relaxed way to spot hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds at close range. Midweek, you travel to Musanze, the base for Volcanoes, where the landscape cools and the scenery shifts to the Virunga slopes. Gorilla trekking begins with a ranger briefing at Kinigi, then a guided hike that can take from 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the assigned family. You finish with golden monkeys before returning to Kigali for departure, with permits and logistics handled for you.
